Morning Cuppa: Owl Dance

Good morning ladies and gentlemen and welcome to Max and Collin’s totally tea-tastic parlour located within the splendidly scenic city of Lancaster!

True some have called it the rancid relic of some fishy business but we consider that such people are merely embittered that they have not yet received an invitation.

You find us this morning utterly exhausted after a long weekend spent trying to persuade the Pre-Cognitive Sisterhood to join the ranks of the revolution… this isn’t the first time Max has insisted we try and win over this extremist faction of militant naked barbarians and, yet again, we were unsuccessful. The whole thing seems to me a waste of time and energy but Max seems adamant that their presence in our ranks would be beneficial.

Well whatever the case we are now both utterly fagged and in definate need of a good cup of tea and a splendid book to accompany it and, of course, we have both..

Our tea this morning is this zesty Rasberry Pineapple blend from craftteacompany and our book is…

This is an absolutely jam packed novel and if you like your Steampunk to be fast moving and action fuelled but with a serious amount of intrigue and plot complexity to beef that out then we think  you’ll adore this one.  Beginning in the 1800s wild west with a gun slinging sheriff and a vulnerable nomadic healer, the layers of excitement  just keep building as warring continents, alien intelligence, pirates and cowboys all find their interests intertwining towards a ‘grand finale’ that was both unexpected and enjoyable. Besides all the action there’s a nice solid romance story running through the heart of it all, but what interested us most of was the skillful way Summers dealt with the social issues which surface throughout the book – racism, prejudice, belief, and the way all of us as human beings view and treat those we see as ‘other’ – these ongoing themes gave an extra depth to the adventure romance story, making it one of those books that will reward those who go back for a second / third read.

Oh and now the kettle is singing but there may just be time to pop our oracular pet into its cup and what it has to show us this morning…

We wish you a very splendid morning and invite you back to join us for elevenses tomorrow so, until then, please be always,

Utterly Yourself.
